Mastering Wedding Photography Poses for Timeless Memories
Let’s talk about your wedding photography in this post. You’ve probably spoken with our team beforehand (it’s ok if you haven’t just yet) about the order in which you want your photos taken and how the reception will be captured; here are some tips for you and your loved one(s) to get the most out of your photos in regards to posing. We want you to feel comfortable in front of the camera, as you’re sure to be radiant!
Posture
You’ll want your photos to truly show the magic of your love. First off is posture! Your dress or suit may feel different than what you’re used to, especially if you’re not accustomed to wearing formal wear frequently. Shoulders back, imagine a string pulling the top of your head towards the sky. Oftentimes if we feel nervous, we might curve our shoulders, or bow our heads, so be mindful of your body and head positions.
2 . Approach your photos with confidence
Remember that this is your day! Smile with your mouth and your eyes, being sure to look into your partner’s gaze and remind yourself of why you’re there that day. This will help your true natural state of happiness and excitement shine through, whether you’re smiling with teeth or not.
3 . Hands
This specific detail/body part tends to go overlooked: your hands. Between all of the dress’s folds and the suit’s layers, holding your partner, or guests, might feel unlike the way you usually pose for photos. Try to embrace each other normally, remembering that the only difference in these moments is the clothes- your love and commitment to each other are constant! Loosen up your hands, hold each other’s waists gently and with ease; if you’re going to hug, place your heads on each other’s shoulders and try some photos with eyes open and closed, with your arms and hands fitting together like natural puzzle pieces. No need for stiffness or to feel awkward; this is your day so own your pose! We know you can do it and our photographers and videographers are here to help and guide you.
4 . Incorporate Movement
While still poses are beautiful, adding a touch of movement can bring a dynamic and lively element to your photos. Consider taking a stroll hand-in-hand, twirling, or even sharing a dance with your partner. These candid moments can capture the joy and energy of the day.
5. Utilize the Venue
Take advantage of the unique features of your wedding venue. Whether it's a grand staircase, a beautiful garden, or a stunning backdrop, discuss with your photographer how to incorporate these elements into your poses. It will add a touch of elegance and create visually captivating images.
6 . Express Emotion
Your wedding day is filled with an array of emotions, from happiness and excitement to sentimental moments. Don't shy away from expressing these feelings in your photos. Laugh, cry, and embrace each other, allowing your genuine emotions to shine through. These candid shots will evoke cherished memories for years to come.
7 . Capture Candid Moments
While posed portraits are important, the beauty of candid shots lies in their authenticity. Encourage your photographer to capture candid moments throughout the day, such as stolen glances, heartfelt conversations, or bursts of laughter. These candid shots will provide a heartfelt narrative of your wedding day.
8. Personalize Your Poses
Incorporate elements that reflect your unique personalities and relationship into your poses. Whether it's a shared hobby, a meaningful prop, or a specific gesture, these personal touches will make your photos truly special and meaningful.
9. Timing is Everything
Discuss with your photographer the best time of day for your photo sessions. The golden hour, just before sunset, provides a soft and romantic light that can enhance the overall mood of your photos. Planning your poses around the optimal lighting conditions will add a magical touch to your images.
10. Have Fun and Be Yourselves
Remember, your wedding day is a celebration of your love and commitment. Relax, enjoy the moment, and let your true selves shine through. Authenticity and genuine happiness are the key ingredients to breathtaking wedding photos.
Finally, remember to listen to the guidance of the photographer/videographer. An “OK” photographer will simply click on the button on top of the camera. A professional is an expert in posing who will make sure you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera and give you clear directions to result in photos/videos that will look natural, cinematic, and, simply put, EPIC!
Stay classy and remember - to be a photographer/videographer it’s more than just clicking on a button.
