Why You Shouldn't Settle for the Cheapest Wedding Vendors: 5 Key Reasons
It is finally happening. The person of your dreams proposed to you and the word "yes," has exited your lips. Now, it's time to plan the big day!
Any wedding, no matter how big or small requires preparation and a budget to cover the costs associated with it. There are so many things to buy and so many people to hire that you are afraid you may go over budget in no time. In this article, I will tell you 5 reasons why you should dedicate a realistic budget to meet your vision of the perfect wedding and not settle for the cheapest vendors that you may encounter.
1. Quality Work and Experience
First of all, you should not hire the cheapest wedding vendors because they are cheap. Generally speaking, if a vendor charges less than their peers for similar services or products it is either due to low-quality work or lack of experience. If your goal is to have an amazing wedding, hiring someone who charges you a suspiciously low price is likely to take you down in history books as one of the unfortunate couples whose once-in-a-lifetime experience was ruined or didn't meet expectations.
You have to make a decision, what is more important for you - saving money or spending a bit extra to gather the experience you want. When it comes to wedding photography, for example, you can either choose a novice photographer who is just starting out and is likely to make mistakes, OR you could go with an experienced professional who has a proven track record of delivering beautiful images time after time.
The choice is yours!
There is a reason for an old saying still being relevant today - “You Get What You Pay For.”
2. Necessary Equipment and Professionalism
The second reason why you should not hire the cheapest vendors is because those vendors may not take their business as seriously and simply not have the necessary equipment to meet your expectations.
For example, when hiring a wedding DJ, you want to make sure they have a sound system that is powerful enough to cover the entire space where your guests will be dancing. You don't necessarily want to pay a dj who brings in only their cell phone and a Bluetooth speaker.
3. Experience and Problem Solving
The third reason is experience, experience, experience.
There are so many stories I can share when something at a wedding doesn't go as planned and emergencies must be handled by the professionals you hire. Trust me. You will already be nervous on the day of and don't need additional stress trying to solve problems. You want to have the right people next to you who, for a fact, will overcome any obstacle that gets in your way. A true professional is not the one who handles the situation when everything goes as planned, but the one who leads everyone to success when something goes wrong. Cheap vendors are either inexperienced or will not be able to dedicate enough time to pay attention to every detail and/or overcome obstacles. A true professional offers you their time & expertise... and both cost money.
4. Avoiding Post-Wedding Hassles
The fourth reason why you should not hire the cheapest vendors is because they may not be able to deliver quality work, which can cost you more money in post-production. If your wedding photos look like snapshots from an iPhone camera then why pay someone to do it when your friends and family are likely to happily do it for free?
5. Insurance and Liability
The fifth reason why you should not hire the cheapest vendors is because those vendors may not be insured.
What if something goes wrong on your wedding day and one of your cheaper vendors gets injured or injures someone? Who is responsible for paying for their medical bills?
Bonus
Here is a bonus reason! When hiring any vendor, remember to do your research and either obtain references and check the reviews people leave them. If there is no one who can vouch for that professional, chances are they are a fraud and will try to scam you out of your money. I have heard horror stories like this and it's a real thing. While some (more experienced) scammers may not offer you the lowest pricing for the service, most will because this is the easiest way to capture your attention. Another popular saying is quite fitting to this situation - It's too good to be true.
If you are on a tight budget, consider hiring fewer vendors and invest in quality ones instead.
This way you can ensure that all of your vendors are professional and passionate about their work, which will result in a better overall outcome for your wedding day.
Final words
In conclusion, while it may seem like a really great idea to hire the cheapest wedding vendor you come across, do you research to make sure the price tag comes with the quality.
